Over the years, the kitchen has become a focal point in our homes, especially as recent trends have shifted toward open kitchen designs, making the kitchen a more “sociable” space.
A room that was once only used for cooking and function, has morphed into the central meeting place, an area for gathering and socializing as much as it is for cooking. As such, when planning your kitchen remodel it’s important to keep those factors in mind.
We’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite current and upcoming kitchen trends to help you plan the perfect design layout for your home.
Bolder and Brighter Colors
Don’t get us wrong, white cabinets are still a top seller, but we’re finally beginning to see a trend of color and vibrant shades emerging as the new favorite. While classic white still has its place, adding bold and brighter colors to your space can create a livelier and more energetic atmosphere. Dark gem-tones like emerald, sapphire, and garnet are also rising in popularity, with unique color schemes and patterns emerging daily. On the other end of the spectrum, more subdued color options are also gaining traction, employing pastels like sage green and pink for a soothing look and feel.
Smart kitchens
Technology is everywhere these days, and the kitchen is no exception! Smart appliances, lighting, and faucets are a growing trend among new kitchen designs. You can now control your oven from your smartphone, or set your coffee maker to have your morning cup ready right when you wake up. There are even refrigerators that alert you when you’re running low on something, or can tell you which of your eggs need to be eaten first! Neat huh?
Multi-use Islands
Kitchen utilities and storage spaces are more frequently moving away from the walls and into the islands. As a result, kitchen islands are getting bigger. Large, multi-use islands are all the rage, featuring bar seating and creative cabinet and storage solutions. We’re also seeing more appliances move from the walls to the island areas like ovens, stoves, and even sinks!
Impressive Natural Countertops
Countertops made from natural stones like granite, marble, and quartz are still reigning supreme, with marble being the hottest trend on the market. But other natural counter materials are also starting to come into play as well. Reclaimed wood is a trendy, more sustainable, and environmentally friendly option that can give an urban rustic vibe, and metals like copper and brass with different patina finishes are also on the rise.
Built-in Sinks
Speaking of countertop materials, built in sinks using the same material as the countertops are another kitchen design trend that is continuing to rise. Sinks made from marble, granite, or even patina finished copper or brass create an elegant seamless look when paired with matching counters. Brass and other mixed metals are also a popular choice for faucet fixtures, cabinet handles, and other accents. These trends are also becoming popular in bathroom remodeling.
Appliances that pop!
Stainless steel appliances have dominated the market for quite some time, but it looks like that trend is finally on its way out. Replacing the classic stainless steel appliances are bold and brighter colors, brushed darker metals, golds, brass, and even artistically painted or patterned pieces. We’re also starting to see a trend of retro-contemporary airstream style stoves and fridges. These bolder choices can add a fun color accent and juxtaposition to an otherwise clean and neutral toned kitchen.
