Small or large, simple or complex, no matter what the level of renovation, an update to your kitchen can be a stressful and disruptive time for any Rhode Island homeowner. But it can, and often is, a very exciting time as well.
As a homeowner, there are a few things you can do in order to make sure your Rhode Island kitchen remodel goes off without a hitch.
Cumberland Kitchen and Bath is your Rhode Island go-to for contemporary kitchen design ideas, planning and execution. Here are a few things that we suggest you do before beginning the process of your kitchen redesign….
First, Visualize a Long-Term Plan
Everyone uses their kitchen to make food, but beyond that, there are several different purposes for kitchens. For some of us, that means entertaining friends, while others might use the space for work or school. Your new kitchen should be created with the utility function you need in mind. Many design companies have tools which allow you to visualize various options for a new kitchen format and can help you figure out the perfect layout for both function and form.
Build a Temporary Kitchen
Since your kitchen is probably one of the most-used places in your home, you will need to establish an alternative place for cooking, eating and other activities that would have otherwise happened in the actual kitchen had it not been torn apart for renovation.
This means you have to find another spot in your home which is suitable for food preparation and dining. You can prepare this area by moving a fridge, coffee maker, crock pot freezer, and microwave. You may want to even consider finding a few small used appliances which will fit in this area.
You will also want to consider ahead of time where you’ll do your washing and drying of dishes. Having a few eco-friendly disposable dishes on-hand can help.
Prepare a Menu
Plan some “easy-to-prepare” meals ahead of time so that you can use the alternative kitchen with ease. Canned goods, dry goods, and frozen foods could be perfect, as are salads and sandwiches. And it’s the perfect time to try out a few new restaurants if that fits in your budget. Another idea is to share food with neighbors or friends: see if they would be able to have you for dinner and offer them a dinner date in exchange.
Take Some Time Off (if possible)
If it’s possible to take a little vacation to visit family, friends, or just escape during the time of the kitchen redesign, do it! You’ll probably be spending money on restaurants anyways, and there will be some disruption in the house. Getting away all together can be a great way to relax, even if it’s just for a night or two.
And if you are worried about the redesign, see if a knowledgeable friend or neighbor is willing to be the “go to” person should the designers have any questions or concerns.
