Bathrooms are one of the most used places in the home. If your household shares one, then it’s likely the room that gets the most traffic. This constant usage is why organizing your bathroom is a must. When it’s well structured, it’s easier to keep it clean, and finding things isn’t an issue. We specialize in bathrooms, from plumbing to cabinetry, and love to share our knowledge.
Here are some tips we’ve found best when attempting to organize a bathroom.
Have a Plan
When you put aside time to create a plan of attack, big jobs like organizing a bathroom don’t seem overwhelming. Planning will also give you a better chance of identifying potential bumps in the road.
Know Where to Begin
Whether you like to begin at the top and work your way down or do one wall at a time, it’s a good idea to know where the best place to start is. Some organizers swear that you should tackle the clutter first, and who are we to argue? No matter where you start, the next step is imperative.
Break It Down into Smaller Jobs
If you have a drawer filled with stuff, do that one job. Your medicine cabinet can be another project. Then the linen closet. A bathroom is a complex space, big or small. When you tackle a smaller area first, the sense of accomplishment will give you the energy to move on to the next.
Finish What You Start
Organizing can take hours or an entire day. Complete a job once you’ve started. If you move from job to job, then you’ll have a big mess when you’re tired. If you’ve started working on the cabinets, don’t move on to the next thing until you’ve finished.
Get Some Organizers
Drawers get overwhelmed, cabinets can be vast, and shelving units need micro-organization. You can do this by purchasing trays, holders, and other organizational units and sort items by use. You may want to consider installing another cabinet if you have the wall space. Lazy Susan options allow you to organize while making access simple.
Get a Shelving Unit
Free-standing cabinets come in all shapes and sizes. Shelves on wheels are fantastic and helpful when cleaning. You can find shelving units for the wall if floor space is an issue. Shelves are excellent for organizing.
Don’t Be Afraid to Purge
Do you still need that hair product from ten years ago? Is the nail polish in that basket so old you can’t open the top anymore? We all have reasons to hang on to makeup, hairpieces, and other items we’ve bought.
The rule of thumb is that if you haven’t used it in six months to a year, we suggest getting rid of it to make space for the things you use.
In the end, getting things organized in your bathroom is a healthy goal, and you’ll be surprised at how easy it is to keep it clean. It also frees headspace for other projects you enjoy.
